Hamam
When one is aproaching a hamam one can hardly notice it. Often it is a small entrance door with a corridor. It is like a tunnel through one can pass into another world. It is something like a calm oasis in the busy bazaar and a place where one can take time for the body and mind.
We experienced the way through the first space to the third space like a filter of the outside world-noise. The biggest surprise was the dome that is not visible from the outside. We also noticed a big contrast between cold and hard materials like the hard stone to the warm, flowing feeling of the heat and the water. One can still smell the ancient tradition even the Hamam now is a carpet shop.
Also the building has a very elegant contrast between the heavy structure of the walls and the soft light coming from the ceiling. It is as if rays of light that come through the ceiling are like the sunlight shining through forest leaves.
Through out our work we talked about several feelings we have experienced and also the atmosphere of the building and characterised it with the five senses and the strong relationship to the elements earth, air, water and fire. With help of this analysis we defined several suggestions how the Hamam building could be used in future, as a library and literature center or a powernapping point in the busy bazaar district.
